The Dees have sailed home in a pre-season match-up, shaking off a slow start.
The Melbourne outfit held on, to take home a 21-point win over Geelong, on their home soil at GMHBA Stadium.
The Cats were off to a hot start – booting a liturgy of four goals in the first term, but struggled to maintain intensity, and scored only once more in the match.
As the game progressed, as did the Dees – who kicked into gear.Maddie Boyd was a domineering force up forward – snagging two goals between the sticks in the first, but the Dees stood tall.
Rising Melbourne Mid, Tyla Hanks, was dressed to impress, named as the side’s best in the match.Teammate Lily Mithen was also strong through rotation between the middle and forward line.
Forward Jackie Parry also showed the side who’s boss – finding space in the attack and finishing with two goals.
As well as taking home the win, the Dees also took home a few minor injuries, including that of All-Australian captain, Karen Paxman.
This sent shockwaves across the ground, with hamstring woes looking likely – however, the damage was ultimately a corked quad, which sent Paxman packing for the second half.
Defender Meg Dowie was also in the wars, finishing on crutches with a sprained ankle. But, despite the injury clouds, the girls can go home confident, coming into the 2021 AFLW Season.
